Parkview Whitley Hospital, 353 North Oak St., Columbia City, a charitable, not-for-profit, community-owned hospital, was founded April 2, 1951, and has been a member of Parkview Health since 1995. As Whitley County’s preferred healthcare provider, Parkview Whitley Hospital is dedicated to meeting the community’s changing healthcare needs. The hospital recently broke ground for a new facility to be built on U.S. 30.

Parkview Whitley is keeping pace with the rapidly changing healthcare industry by bringing new technology representing the latest diagnostic and treatment procedures such as the recent upgrade of the MRI unit; the availability of Stretta®, a new minimally-invasive procedure for gastro esophageal reflux disease; and the integration of eICU® technology in the constant care unit.

The 140,000 sq. ft. facility includes six buildings located on 25 acres. The 37-bed hospital counts 152 physicians as medical staff members in addition to another 398 full and part-time employees. The hospital features central scheduling, Heart Beats cafeteria, a pharmacy, President1s Hotline, telephone directory and the Unique Boutique gift shop. Services include:

  • A full-service, 24-hour emergency department with eight treatment rooms and two trauma bays. There were 11,483 visits to this department in 2005.
  • A 5-bed critical care unit with eICU® technology and remote presence robot (RoboDoc).
  • Two surgical suites. Surgeries performed in 2005 numbered 1,173(includes inpatient and outpatient).
  • The New Life Center with six private labor-delivery-recovery-post-partum rooms.
  • Rehabilitation Services, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, cardiac and pulmonary rehab.
  • A Sleep Disorders Lab for diagnosis and treatment of sleep-related disorders.
  • Diagnostic Imaging, filmless imaging in MRI, MRA, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, CT and DEXA Scans. Mammography also available.

The service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Parkview Whitley Hospital’s Community Health Improvement Program works in conjunction with the hospital mission to improve the health of the community through community partnerships and outreach initiatives. Each year the hospital sets aside 10 percent of its net income, or a minimum of $50,000 a year, to fund the program.
